Happy Tuesday everyone! I’m just going to jump right in and get started! These are 10 tips when traveling during a pandemic! That’s pretty typically preparation at this point.
1. Wear a Mask + Social Distance + Gloves
This is a requirement of most places and airlines. I like to keep a few zip-lock bags handy so I can safely store things like my mask and gloves. Try to avoid crowds of people at the airport as best as you can. Leave some space between you and the others in the security line.
2. Drive vs Flight
If your ability to drive over fly I would highly recommend it. Needless to say, you are a lot more aware of what/who has been in your vehicle rather than a plane. Airlines are limiting their flight capacity. Expect a rise in price to accommodate the empty seats.
3. Wash Your Hands
Now, this should be just basic hygiene. But it doesn’t hurt to be extra thorough when you know you’re traveling. Keep those hands washed. Just think of all the stuff you have to touch simply walking into an airport or hotel. Now think of how many people have to touch all those same things. Scrub a dub dub! Haha.
4. Check with Doctor
If you have medical concerns be sure to speak with your physician to make sure you are safe to travel. Don’t forget your compression socks, medications, etc.
5. Stay Up-to-date
Not only can your flights change. But different states can have various laws. Stay at home orders. Make sure you stay aware of how this could affect your travel plans.
6. Be Smart (symptoms)
Obviously, if you are not feeling well it’s safe to say you should put others at risk. Reschedule. Stay home. Feel better. Find out what symptoms you should be looking out for. CVS is offering a COVID test by appointment here in Florida if you’d like to rule it out.
7. Consider Travel Insurance
This is usually not something that I purchase. Which is probably not the best idea. However, during these times, I think it is best despite how flexible some places are being right now. It will ensure you get your money back if things are suddenly canceled for whatever reason.
8. Hotel Vs AirBNB
I think it’s very important to reach out to your Airbnb to find out how they are addressing sanitation. Not everyone has the same outlook during the pandemic. If it doesn’t appear that they are going more than above and beyond to ensure the safety of their guests. I would likely avoid the place. (Example: I reached out to an Airbnb to see what precautions they were taking. To my surprise, they were restricting schedules between stays not only to provide ample time for cleaning but also to give the room a “quarantine“. I mean how cool is that.) As for hotels, there is a standard requirement that they must follow with what is going on. I think either option is viable but between the two I’d likely pick a hotel.
9. Pack Sanitizing Wipes
I carry sanitation wipes in my car to bring everywhere. It’s nice to wipe things down before you touch them or wipe your hands. Gas station. The armrest on planes. Luggage. In most cases, these things are going be cleaned beforehand but it gives me a sense of security to know it’s extra clean.
10. Boost Immunity
It’s important to do what you can to boost your immune system. Hydration is super important in general to our health so you can start there. I like to take vitamin C supplements during the peak of flu season as well as currently. There’s a lot of products out there. I don’t feel there’s a need to go crazy with it. But a little boost can go along way.
I hope you found these tips helpful. I wish everyone happiness and safe travels! if you have any additional tips for traveling during these times leave them in the comments below. I’d love to read them and I’m sure others would as well.
