My Favorite Blogging Tips from Other New Bloggers

Starting a blog can get to be a bit overwhelming. There are a ton of resources which sounds great right? Wrong. Haha. After reading through several dozen posts from new and highly experienced successful bloggers these are some of the tips that I found the most helpful with getting my feet off the ground.

Tip 1: Name

Trying to pick a blog name, for me, was the most frustrating. What sounds cute? Is my name “cool” enough? This is going to forever represent the brand of my blog! (Not really though.) The commitment to your blog name isn’t a permanent as you think. That was a huge relief for me because it doesn’t put much pressure on picking the “perfect” name for your site! Make sure you keep it simple though.

Tip 2: Establish an audience not a “niche”.

This is something that I feel might be a little controversial. Most articles I read said to pick a niche which I understand why. You don’t want your topics to be completely random. You want to be a source people can rely on for specific content. However, I do feel it is okay to have categories. Aim to please your audience! You want your content to be well-round. For me, it’s a balance of lifestyle tips & tricks, travel guides, worthy purchases of mine, and fashion. Make sure you stand out by sprinkling in a little bit of your personality!

Tip 3:

This is probably one of the most popular platforms bloggers use. As a beginner, I’d say it is super user friendly and also has a ton of plugs-ins, themes to allow you to customize your space. Make sure to have a hosting site as well this is where you’ll purchase your domain and a few other things.

Tip 4: Have Content Ready!

You’ve launched your blog. The theme, check. About me, check. Contact me, check. First post? Um… yeah. A lot of work goes into the startup but you don’t wanna find yourself running with no content. From what I read it’s recommended to get started with a few posts posted and to have some ready for days to come. This will allow you to get started on some new content without feeling rushed. Don’t get me wrong you have to get yourself on a schedule to keep things consistent. I truly felt more prepared. ;D

Tip 5: Learn Basic SEO

Search Engine Optimization. Fancy, I know. You put in all this effort in writing your blog post and it gets no views this is likely because your optimization is low. Most importantly, it is not coming up in searches on Google. This is what drives tragic to your site. Plugins like “Yoast SEO” are Going to give you some advantages to look into. Knowing how to format sentences and which keywords to use will help your blog grow and be more successful.

Tip 6: Stay Legal

Don’t go rushing to an attorney now. Haha. But definitely look into the appropriate entities to keep your site legal. From what I’ve seen it appears that you will need a Privacy policy, Disclaimer, as well as Terms and Conditions. You don’t want to become legally responsible for something that you publish on your blog. Once you start using affiliation links this could allow you to receive a commission based on click and/or purchase through said link. It’s could support the continuation of your blog and people need to be made aware. This is going to give people peace of mind when they go to your blog to see it’s safe and secure.
